Leadership of Via Oncology
Via Oncology leadership comprises experienced professionals from the medical field. From administrators to oncologists, we understand what it takes to successfully and efficiently develop the best protocols for delivering cancer care.
President and CEO
Our chief cheerleader and idea generator is Kathy Lokay who joined UPMC in 2008 to launch the Via Oncology product that UPMC CancerCenter started in 2004. Kathy’s background as a CPA combined with her 20 years of experience in oncology have been a great foundation to help her lead Via’s overall strategy and execution. She is passionate about driving the volume to value transition in oncology and has made clinical pathways her personal mission for the past 11 years.
Kathy was previously Senior Vice President at US Oncology with responsibility for several business units including iKnowMed and Innovent/Level I Pathways. Kathy received her BBA in Accounting from the University of Texas and is a happily transplanted Pittsburgher. Kathy has no conflicts of interest to declare.
Chief Technology Officer
Jesse has been the mastermind behind Via’s technology architecture, vision and strategy since the company’s inception. His vision for the evolving and complex data model for clinical pathways has translated into a dynamic content authoring tool-set and delivery platform, which has enabled Via to support rapid content and market changes, custom content, and even pathways in other areas of healthcare.
After completing his graduate studies in Environmental Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1997, Jesse began building his IT career, including six years at Microsoft, where he received multiple awards for building a web-based tool-set for the operations and management of all of Microsoft’s online services, much of which is still in use today.
Jesse has been passionate about technology since childhood, and has cultivated a unique combination of academic, professional and personal experience across a wide range of subjects that makes him a natural thought-leader in discussions even outside of technology. His passion for teaching and collaborative approach to problem-solving have established him as a mentor to the entire Via team. Jesse has no conflicts of interest to declare.
Senior Director of Strategy
Gordon Kuntz has been at the cutting edge of innovation in oncology care delivery for over 12 years, working to bridge practice efficiency, payer cost constraints and improvements in patient care. Gordon is the Senior Director of Strategy for Via Oncology where he provides value-added services to Via’s current and future clients, including community oncology practices, and hospital and academic cancer centers.
Gordon consults with practices to drive discussion and collaboration with their key stakeholders, including insurance plans, accountable care organizations, referring physicians and other cancer centers.
Gordon previously led payer strategy for a national specialty drug distributor, for whom he coordinated Oncology Medical Home initiatives and developed innovative oncology management strategies. His 25 year career in healthcare includes business development, product development, and corporate strategy. Gordon received his undergraduate degree in Political Science and Economics from Occidental College. Gordon has no conflicts of interest to declare.
Director of Network Development
Ed has been with the team since our inception at UPMC CancerCenter in 2004. Today, as Director of Network Development, he serves as our first point-of-contact for new customers. He provides leadership to our marketing and sales activities while engaging and supporting the teams that provide implementation services and account management.
He is driven by his passion for shaping how the world uses clinical pathways to improve cancer care. He enjoys being a consultative partner to our customers and using innovative thinking to solve their problems and helping them develop long-term vision.
Ed previously held roles in Via Oncology as Director of Product Management, Customer Service and Implementation, and Software Engineer/Project Manager. As the unofficial company historian, he serves as a wealth of knowledge for employees both old and new. Unfortunately, Ed is a Patriots fanatic but we don’t hold that against him (too much)! Ed received his Bachelors of Science from the University of Pittsburgh. Ed has no conflicts of interest to declare.
Director of Product Management
Jonathan leads Via’s product management and design efforts. He is interested in unraveling real-world problems and simplifying complex systems for users. He was drawn to building software for oncologists because there are always interesting challenges to solve with mission-oriented colleagues. He enjoys learning about agile management philosophies, user experience methodologies, and product management trends.
Jonathan has studied media, design, technology, and management, completing a Bachelors of Art in Telecommunications from Michigan State University, a Master of Science in Information Systems from Carnegie Mellon University, and a graduate certificate in Human Computer Interaction from Iowa State University.
In previous lives, Jonathan worked for venture backed startups, served in the Dominican Republic as a Peace Corps volunteer, developed media-based youth programs at the Crissy Field Center, and helped to build an online archive of entrepreneurial education resources with the Stanford Technology Ventures Program. As a Pittsburgh transplant, he is proud to call the steel city home (except in the winter). Jonathan has no conflicts of interest to declare.
Director of Operations
Zach has been with Via since 2012, when he started on the content development team, focused primarily on building out our radiation oncology pathways. Since that time, Zach has rapidly grown up through our leadership ranks, and now spearheads the operations of all of our content development, customer implementation and support, account management, and reporting and analytics efforts.
Zach’s passion for working with industry-leading physicians to develop content and tools that improve the quality of care for cancer patients is clearly demonstrated, both by the outstanding services provided by his team, and the continual process improvements that he champions within his team and across the company.
Working closely with his teammates and fostering an environment which promotes collaboration and open communication are some of the things that Zach enjoys most about his job. A Pittsburgh native, Zach left for several years, and is now happy to be back home. In his spare time, he enjoys playing music and touring with his band. Zach has no conflicts of interest to declare.
